They are reminders that nature is warning us of perils ahead and the fragile yet quiet strength and importance of trees. From the roots to the crown and back to the seeds, trees are a masterpiece of nature and symbolic of the elements at play. Paint is raining down drizzling with the simple effect of nature seeping and regenerating into the earth. I am constantly photographing landscape and trees whilst traveling around the country and have enjoyed seeing the same solitary scene of either a lone tree or a group that is always quietly there as we pass on by. The background of this work is a found cream embossed fabric that has been painted with textile ink to resemble decorative wallpaper. On cut-outs of silk, assorted items of furniture and a cat have been painted using textile ink then hand-sewn on to the background using invisible thread to invoke a floating effect. Vintage table cloths have also been painted in textile ink and repurposed to represent a painting on the wall and a lampshade. Multicoloured beads have been hand-sewn on to the work using invisible thread to add to the ‘kitsch’, 3-dimensional effect. A source of inspiration for this work comes from historical European influences, where craftsmanship and detail were of great importance.
